Brian and Carrie are the directors of this wild production.  Literally and figuratively!  And believe us when we say that bringing Gracie home has been our biggest production ever!

We are high school theatre directors and we have the amazing luck of working together at the same school.  We have been married for 19 years and for the first 17 we had not planned on having children.  We had busy careers and loved spending time together.  We had wonderful students who gave our lives great joy and fulfillment.  We simply couldn't imagine what our lives would be like with children in our home.

But the summer that Grandma Grace passed away changed our thinking.  We suddenly realized that our lives would be very empty without children of our own.  Our students always become like family to us, but each year they graduate and move on with their lives.  We felt like we were missing out on a complete family experience.  So that summer, as we drove home from California, we decided to adopt.

To say that our family and friends were surprised is probably the understatement of the century.  As I mentioned we had been married a long time and we were pretty set in our ways.  But I think it came as very welcome news.  Especially, for the grandparents who had pretty much given up hope for us ever bringing them any grandchildren.
