(Really Fun!) Today we met with Zhang Mei and went to Beijing Lu. No, not back up to the city Beijing…but Beijing Street here in GZ. This is a treasure haven for young people hoping to get unbelievable deals on trendy clothes. We went here 2 years ago, and knew exactly which stores we wanted to visit… which is a good thing because there are hundreds upon hundreds of shops to choose from. Just the older 2 and I went with Mei this morning and Dave stayed back to swim with the younger 4. (What a guy!) When we returned, it was time for the group photos- getting 7 children to sit on a couch and smile was quite a trip! After the photo session, we took Terri, Mia, Nina, and Anaia back to Beijing Lu so Mia could take advantage of the cool new clothing possibilities as well! We scooted in the door just in time for dinner! J Needless to say, we have some very happy girls tonight! So happy in fact that they all put on a fashion show for us in the hall before bedtime. It was PRICELESS!!! (As you can see…) We got a bit noisy and had to bring it to a close as there are babies on each side of us. :0?
It is going to be unbelievably sad to separate from Mia and her family. The older girls got teary tonight lamenting over how far away they live…they have really bonded…it is going to be so hard… I for one am going to miss that sweet, sweet smile that imerged from her face as I got the privilege to watch her completely light up over the last couple of weeks.
Everyone had a great day. Anaia is beyond thrilled with her new clothes. She got a pair of jeans today and is very excited about them. She was reluctant at first about parading up and down the hall and posing for pictures, but it took all of about 30 seconds to convince her to join in. There was so much laughter and smiles tonight- it is amazing to see the transformation in these girls in a mere 2 weeks. They are putting forth so much effort- branching out- taking risks- accepting all the new customs and lifestyle changes with minimal concerns. These kids will all forever be my heroes. They are stronger and braver than anyone else I know. It amazes me to see how God has prepared their hearts- and although it is by no means easy to continue to shape them, it is beyond rewarding to see them bloom.
We are getting excited to come home…my LARGE SOFT BED is calling for me! I can’t wait to run the tap water and put my toothbrush underneath it…or eat a giant salad with ranch dressing! It will also be deeply saddening to leave China. There is so much I love about this crazy country. Dirt, pollution, construction, traffic, and all. At least I know we will return, the Lord willing, many times in the future…
